I have a HesWare 5 slot port expander with:
2-3k
3-8k
3-16k + 1-16k with a bad RAM (it only adds 12k)
1-MegaCart
and a self made 35k that I made by adding a 32k RAM to a Super Expander cart.

I felt one choice was missing and took the liberty to add "no memory expansion" at the end. And to my big surprise all votes disappeared. SORRY! Please vote again.

I have 3k, 8k, 16k, 32k via Megacart AND 24k from a third party solution back in the day. MSD I think... they also released the game Mobile Attack for the Vic.

I'm the stray vote for "no memory expansion" as my VIC came without any. A handful of cartridge games but no memory expander.

All except the last two :)
Still, I use megacart and fe3 most of the time.

I own a standard +3K RAM expansion, Mega-Cart, FE3 and the internal VFLI mod (which renders my +3K one useless for that VIC-20 ). For the most time, I use Mega-Cart in conjunction with a SD2IEC.

Thus far, for me the poll confirms, that +16K is another useful memory size to design games and other programs for. The single VIC-1111 from Commodore. :)

As a lad, I got +3K first. Then ML cart. Then a 6-port expander to have both. Lastly, +8K.
My younger brother got Programmer's Aid, then Super Expander.
Today, it's Mega-Cart, although I got my share of 3K (and Super Expander), 8k, 16K to boot.

Yes, that's what I was saying in the pulse thread. I doubt there are many users with a maximum of 8K expansion (something still not made clear by this poll) and thus 8K is of limited value as a target configuration when it necessitates compromises in the code.

I suggested the targets should be...

- unexpanded
-16K
- full expansion i.e. megacart FE3 or emulation only

I don't want to create yet another poll, but this is how I would have phrase it...

What is your largest available memory expansion...

none - I only have an unexpanded vic
3K/Super Exapander
8K
16K
Fully tricked out 35K (megacart, FE3, expander boards etc)

... and what of the option, "don't care, use emulation"

I have all the essentials for playing on the real thing myself, yet, I still don't care. The homebrew programmer can do whatever. If the source code is available, and the real VIC 20 enthusiast really wants to make it run on another memory configuration, you are free to do so.

I personally like a homebrew project starting out unexpanded, then a re-release with memory expansion required with a boat-load of new goodies. 8)
