6502's from Bulgaria

Post by RobertBe »

Yes, you read that right. One of our club members ordered several 6502's from Bulgaria. These seem to be clones of the MOS chips, and from what he could tell, they may be pulls from old equipment, cleaned up with the pins re-tinned. He has tried them out, and they work perfectly in his test bed VIC-20. They are relatively inexpensive, too. So if you need some 6502's for your VIC-20 or PET, he can lead you to the two distributors in Bulgaria.

Saw them at Sunday's user group meeting,

Just buy them off Ebay like everyone else does. About $8 posted and NOS brand new. Probably cheaper if you search for those alternative part numbers.

They work perfectly.

The WDC sells the W65C02S for about 5$ each and they can run up to 14MHz.

If you need to purchase, WDC 65C02 is better choice.
It runs much cooler & consumes less power than original MOS6502

Not for international purchases, their postage and handling charges were pure extortion!

Besides, WDC have dropped their online ordering system and you now have to source them from one of their distributors.

AFAIK, Mouser distributes the W65XX family of chips from WDC and they do ship through USPS which is relatively cheap.

Yep, about $12 shipped, definitely the way to go now.
