NOS VIC chips (update):

Post by Muzz73 »

I have had a couple of vendors in China (aside from the one I ordered from) tell me that they have short supplies of VIC chips available.

There was one vendor that told me they had the 6560-101 for $3.20 USD and the 6561-101 for $3.21 USD, with a minimum order quantity of 50 each, so it'd have to be a serious order, because you'd be spending a couple hundred dollars (in U.S. currency) on one order after shipping.

Would anyone be interested in this company's contact info? If so, please let me know and I'll gladly pass it along to you.

Please keep in mind that I have not dealt with any of these vendors before, myself. I cannot personally vouch for their integrity or their products. Please don't try to hold me responsible if things don't go well, as I only wish the best for my fellow Commodore people. :D

I put this update in three different categories, because I thought it applied to all of them. Sorry about that!

I'll be more careful from now on. :?

I may be interested. So you did not get any chips from the previous supplier?

I only recently ordered the VIC chips and they are coming from China, so it may be a couple of weeks before I get them.

I actually submitted a request through a web site that attempts to locate possible vendors to suit your needs, so I have been bombarded by e-mails from suppliers overseas that are asking what I needs, how many, etc.

I figured I would see if anyone else wanted the contact info, because there are several people on this forum looking for VIC chips (both PAL and NTSC) and some of these suppliers claim to have a few left.

After all... I would rather see more of the world's VIC-20's operational than not!

I received a small box from China today and... they look like brand new VIC chips!

I will pull one out and test it in a VIC tomorrow and keep you all posted.

I will also post e-mail addresses and price quotes that some of the suppliers have given me so that anyone who'd like to place a bulk order can do so.

Looking forward to this!

And the verdict is... success!!

I pulled one of the new VIC chips and placed it on my spare VIC-20 board. Powered right up and I was playing Choplifter on my test board a la surplus VIC chip from China.

Woohoo!

I have some to spare, but I already have more requests via private message than I have spare VIC chips, so if there is anyone who'd like to order VIC chips in minimum quantities of 10 or 20, please let me know via private message and I will provide the contact info. for some of the suppliers who have contacted me. If you'd just like one or two, I can send them to to you directly.

I will gladly share some of mine, I just don't have enough for everybody.

Oh, please save me one. My late VIC-20 is down, and it's either the VIC or the 6502 that is bad.
