Good afternoon, this is England calling :-)

Post by ridgerunner »

Hi All,

been reading the forum for the last few days & it's made me want a VIC!
Anyhow I'm 41, live in Devon and want to play Avenger & Jelly Monsters again :-)
I posted a topic in buy/sell for a request to buy a system(who needs eBay grief?!?).

Have a couple of other questions too:

Can the PAL Vic-20 play NTSC carts like the Imagic titles etc?

Also is there a list of Mastertronic releases for the VIC anywhere?

Anyhow, nice to be here,All the best,
Chris

Yes, although there may be graphical side effects (glitching) and speed issues because the games are written to work on NTSC machines, and will be slower on PAL. I've not encountered a lot of obvious problems and I've tested over 2000 games on the Vic20!

3D Maze, Bullet, Crazy Cavey, Doodle Bug, Duck Shoot, Hektik, King Tut, Neutron Zapper, New York Blitz, Phantom Attack, Psycho Shopper, RIP, Rockman, Space Scramble, Sub Hunt, Undermine, Vegas Jackpot.

I do have a few of those spare at the moment, if you're interested.

Thanks for the welcome guys.

The VIC I put a tentative bid on on eBay finished earlier for £82! That seems very expensive?

Thanks for the info Mayhem, I'll have to wait till i get a Vic before games but good to know you have some spares.

Best,
Chris

I was watching that VIC too. I think that one was an early model, so maybe some people suspected it might be one with the more collectible PET keys and it developed into a bidding frenzy

£82 is not a usual price for a working VIC. I bagged one last month for £24 including postage comprising a vic, power supply, boxed avenger and omega race carts, boxed ram cart and motherboard, a super expander cart, joystick, mags, old commodore VICSOFT software catalogues and best of all a boxed speech synth cartridge! And a couple of working modulators thrown in!

It just needs a bit of luck and persistence...

I imagine this auction would be ideal for you RidgeRunner, if only the seller wasn't doing it collect only...

There are a very, very few VIC20 games that use raster effects that might not be compatible, but there should be no compatibility problems with 99%+ of VIC games.

Well it's only taken 9 months but I finally got round to buying a VIC 20. Still waiting for the courier to deliver it. this is the one, if you fancy taking a look.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380737764396? ... 1497.l2649

The games it comes with are not too bad either:
3d maze
arcadia
new york blitz
vegas jackpot
sub hunt
jigsaw
catcha snatcha
wacky waiters
ski
spacesnake

While waiting for the courier to deliver the system I also bought a bunch more games.....

Metagalactic Llama's.
Doodle Bug.
Phantom Attack.
Asteroids - Bug Byte.
King Tut.
Blue Star - Chronosoft.

Well wish me luck!
All the best,
Chris

Nice! Now you only need a RAM expansion and a SD2IEC card reader. :D
PRG Starter - a VICE helper / Vic Software (Boray Gammon, SD2IEC music player, Vic Disk Menu, Tribbles, Mega Omega, How Many 8K etc.)

A late welcome, but welcome fellow Devonian! If it's of any interest, I paid around £20 for my VIC-20 on eBay, I don't know whether that was a one-off, but I paid a similar amount for my C64c.
