I've got a VIC that was working fine 2 days ago, but we left it on overnight and the next evening the screen was out of sync and acting like the monitor sync settings were off. Well, after fiddling with the monitor for about 5 minutes I decided to turn off the VIC and turn it back on. Voila, the screen is normal. However, the cursor doesn't come up now. You and RUN/STOP-RESTORE and it blanks the screen and displays the READY prompt as normal, but still no cursor. And you cannot type anything.
Help, please!
Cursor won't show on VIC 20

6522's are quite common im sure someone on here would be willing to part with a spare chip you may also find one in a old disk drive
where are you based?
you could also try swapping the 6522s around as there are 2 of these in the vic20 your coursor should come back but you will loose another function like serial port acces or cassette access still to eliminate the problem it would do the trick

I cracked open the VIC tonight and the 6522's are both soldered. I don't have the soldering skills to make the repair myself, so I guess I'm retiring this VIC. There are many on eBay right now so I'll pick up another one. Thanks for the advice, guys.shem wrote:i'm afraid not the c64 uses a 6526 an updated version of the 6522 but they are not compatible
where in the world are you? you will find 6522's in the 1541 mk1 and mk2 i am also pretty sure that the bbc model b has some 6522's
