I tried to use a capture card but the capture is not very good for realtime use since the output is in a small box. My monitor has composite input but not a very good scaler from the PAL to its native 1920x1200 resolution. This makes the artefacts quite bad. I'm considering converting my VIC to S-Vi...

Saving high scores from the game although not technically impossible would be very hard. Either the game and the emulator or the emulator would need to be modified to retrieve the score from the game. Then that would need to be passed to some database that the page pulls from to display the high sco...

I also thought the C128 specs where pretty good but then I read an article in the Australian newspaper about the Amiga and my attitude changed. I don't know why I opted for an Atari instead of an Amiga, might have been cost. The more powerful machines could do much better graphics and sound but the ...

I never had another 8-bit machine other than the VIC-20 my parents bought. I did desire a C64 but the next computer I bought was a Atari ST.

I believe the difference between the CR (DIN) models and the 2 prong models, may be that the 2 prong has part of the power supply, in the VIC20 case. Thus the need for the heatsink inside the case. Because the 2 prong only supplies 9V but the VIC20 requires 9V & 5V. The wiki article on this is n...

Yes it is possible. I've been thinking about making the VIC-20 be able to read the input from a wireless PS3 controller. But to do that I would need to receive bluetooth and then convert the signals back to the joystick controls of the port. That would be a very expensive controller however because ...

I believe that items like the Mega Cart / FE3 will have a catalytic affect on the community. Leading to more interest in our obscure hobby, and hopefully more software. For example ROQ3 might not have been written if there was not a system for expanding the VIC's memory to 32K in common use. Therefo...

See this page in the wiki Hardware_Modifications for information on how to do the S Video conversion, and also other hardware tweaks.

For the pots (dials) that can be adjusted see Video_signal_adjustments in the wiki.

Now I have mapped out some of the countryside in the game. I have found 2 other cities and another dungeon. In the other other dungeon I get no encounters either. I forgot to bring the co-ordinates to this computer today of the dungeons. How random are the encounters in the dungeons? In the first on...

MegaCart ROQII problems

I'm having some problems playing the ROQII game included in the mega cart. My main issue is the dujon near the starting point. At first I tried to map it by hand on a blank sheet of paper. Then I realised it was bigger than would fit. So I got out an A4 sheet of graph paper with 5mm square grid on i...

Does the site support Zip archives? In that case you could pack it up even if not really required. Unfortunately not. It only supports images, and certain document formats. I could change the filename. But I can't keep on doing that for everything. Perhaps Denial should look into the possibility to...

Well I have the game but when I went to put it up on my blog I discovered that wordpress.com doesn't allow that sort of attachment.

This is annoying because I want to be able to post programs to my blog. Need to find another.

I nominate Squirrel Quest I (my worst title ever)

For commercial games I actually liked that game where you had to drive at night. I know many people hated it. I had so few games as a kid I never considered any as bad. Mole attack was probably the worst.

Going from a list from Wikipedia and cropping those not listed as VIC20 on Moby games # Adventureland (1978) # Pirate Adventure (1978–1979) # Secret Mission (1979) # Voodoo Castle (In collaboration with Alexis Adams) (1980) # The Count (1981) I'm sure that the VIC20 gamebase has a better list. I too...
