Sword of Fargoal is a Rogue-like (UNIX platform dungeon crawl) computer game written by Jeff McCord. It was originally published on the VIC-20 by EPYX in 1982. The user controls a warrior and the goal is to explore the dungeon (Fargoal) in order to recover the a legendary magical sword (somewhere at or below level fifteen). Various monsters and enemies, traps & treasures are encountered as the dungeon is explored. Winning battles with monsters and recovering gold will result in greater experience and improved abilities for the hero character.

The game was released on cassette for the 16K expanded VIC-20 (product number 366C). The game was later ported to run on the Commodore 64 and has since become a favourite of many retro video game players.

At a time when many games were simple shoot 'em ups which lasted only several minutes, Sword of Fargoal was unique in that a single game could last hours. It also introduced role-playing elements (many of which were inspired by the game "Dungeons & Dragons").
