It has different firmware as well through with a Vic-20 emphasis.

Anyway, concerning the missing contribution by denialers and the appeal towards younger generations: we could always produce a ready-to-go collection of programs to be used via USB, with the appropriate documentation, so that everyone can really know how the Vic evolevd in time. Some recent games and tools really deserve this.
Excellent constructive idea Orion70.

I am pleased that Jeff Minter features highly in The Vic20, he is my go to programmer for awesome sounds on the Vic20.

I would want Star Defence and a few other choice games on there.

In reality we could curate the whole Vic20 collection on a 4GB or less memory stick.

Yes, The C64 only had a basic feature of Vic20 games but with the mode to access it.

This is new firmware with a default to the Vic20 rather than the C64 but with similar full The C64 carousel available.

It was what I wanted The C64 to be with the new advantage of now being in my favourite computer guise.

Indeed, the Vic-20 capabilities on TheC64 are largely hidden and come across as a bonus-feature/afterthought.

I would have preferred this to be reversed on TheVic20 with C64 games not featuring on the carousel.

PS: Happy COVID Canada Day!
... sigh

It is amazing how warm and fuzzy this story made me feel today when I was having my morning coffee checking out my news feed.
Hopefully this October will be better for us all in many ways.

Cheers!

I never managed to lay my hands on a TheC64 maxi. Given the option to choose theC64 maxi and TheVIC20, if they are both the same price, I would prefer TheVIC20 mostly because of the color.

Oh for sure!

I am now sort of glad the maxi launch in North America ended up being delayed because if I had bought one of those and then saw this I probably would have regretted my purchase. The VIC20 was my first childhood PC so this upcoming release of TheVic20 is what I really want.

One thing that I find to be beyond funny is that if you look at every single pic of the New system it appears as if the "white" plastic case on both the main unit and the joystick have already been PRE-Yellowed! :D

That is TOO FUNNY!

Looking forward to a future youtube episode of "8-Bit Guy" trying in vain to retrobrite it!

I especially like the choice of the keyboard font, the microgramma used in the earlier PET style keyboards.
Although I would have preferred to have also the squared keys that came with it.
The mix of rounded keys and PET style labels makes the whole thing feel less authentic.

I like it, the best of both. Cool font and a nicer feel.

Yep this is a compendium, and a tribute, not a 1:1 reproduction. If it was, also the joystick and the box ain't a good reproduction.

I am really disappointed.

Even though I am a Cdn Amazon Prime member and have even ordered from the UK branch many times it will NOT allow me to place a PRE-Order as it says they will not ship to "my location"

Damn.

Who in North America has been been able to place a pre-order??
