VIC Cartridge - What is it?

Post by ka20 »

I've recently acquired this VIC-20 cartridge, but I can't figure out what it is? Any ideas?

This is a HAM-(R)TTY-Cartridge.

AF = audio frequency
PTT = push to talk
TTY = teletype
KEY = Morse key
SPK = speaker
REC = record

You would connect it to your transceiver, and the cartridge then encodes and decodes between keyboard and Morse code. Or you can send directly with a Morse key. There's also a record (to tape) facility built in, with one of the line-out cinch jacks.

As you might guess, mostly interesting if you're an amateur radio operator.

Thanks for the helpful info, Mike! With all those RCA-type plugs on the back, I was hoping that it was some sort of video toaster for the VIC. :D

Maybe it could be useful for something other purpose? :wink:
