A couple of years ago I started building a robot using my VIC as the controller. As part of that, I needed to build a power supply that ran from a battery. I also wanted to replace the power supply with a newer one that was protected from overvoltage in case my original one died; I didn't want my precious VIC to be damaged.
Here is what I built: http://wrcooke.net/classiccomputer/vicp ... power.html
Perhaps it will be useful to someone else.

Here is the picture I posted in the monitor thread: http://sleepingelephant.com/ipw-web/bul ... =11&t=9343
You can see the top corner of the wooden frame sticking up behind the VIC. Right now it is a wooden frame with wheels and not much else. But I will try to get a pic of it up soon.

I love your robot project and would also like to see more.
40 years ago I wanted to do something similar but for many reasons it did not happen. In recent years I've often wondered if I shouldn't take one of the spare VICs in my possession and make that old dream into reality. An old school robot with voice synth powered by an 80s computer still appeals to me.

Re: New VIC CR power supply, battery powered
Here are a couple of crappy pictures. Not much to see yet. It has a frame, a VIC, a battery and power supply and electric control panel, and wheels and motors. I plan to put a plastic a skin over the frame to make it look nice.

@akator
Thanks! When I bought my VIC back in 1983(?) I planned to build all sorts of attachments, including a robot. That didn't happen then, for lots of reasons, but now I'm making it happen. Like most of my projects, it has taken a LOT longer than I imagined!
I encourage you to make something like that. It's great fun. Each time you do one thing you think of several other things to do. I have lots of ideas, very little time
