Hopefully it will go to a person who will know what to do with it and share it with the rest.

Eeeph! Thats expensive for a cart that probably contains a known clone of Astroids. I mean, it may not even have the original contents..

I am also sceptical that the seller was able to remove 38 year old ink from a "prototype" paper sticker. And why didn't he want a forum member to verify the contents?

Well, someone likes to gamble.

Interesting.
I missed this the first time around.
Satoru Iwata is the same Iwata that was president of Nintendo a couple of years ago, so I'm not surprised that an unknown, unreleased game is fetching a decent price.
Clifford Ramshaw who wrote the other Space Rocks also wrote several other VIC games and books, and went on to work for Rare.

eBay, for better or for worse, are fairly strict on sellers, so if it doesn't work or similar, then saying "untested" gets you nowhere, and I can return it for a refund. Assuming I win :? hey, I got Type Sniper to work eventually heh...

We all know who Satoru Iwata was. Point being, its easy enough to print out a sticker and put it on something else. And whats that about not being able to open the cart? Its a single screw on the back. It doesn't require more than a screwdriver.

Will the winner just keep it in a safe, try and dump it, or sell it on auction at Christie's to some oil tycoon?

This thing just became a bottle of wine. You may buy one from 1981, but you never know what to expect once you open it.

I was the winner of this eBay auction. I probably overpaid, but I’m really curious to see what’s there. I’ll share any info I discover, including a dump of the cartridge, in this forum.

I am a little concerned, however, since it’s been a week since I paid and the seller has yet to ship the item and isn’t responding to my communications. I guess I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and wait a little longer…

Ka20, thanks so much for sharing. I really hope the money spent will be worth the historical value. You should send him a mail every day and threaten him with a PayPal complaint.

Don't leave feedback until you receive the item and are satisfied. Also if the deal falls through use ebay to file a not received complaint not paypal. Ebay automatically favors the buyer. Paypal is second fallback, and the CC company is third.

Thanks for the advice. The seller responded to me over the weekend and said he would be sending it "soon".
