More than 32K??

Bill Gates once said that 640K is all any VIC-20 would ever need. Wait...he said 32K is all that it would ever need....Wait...he actually didn't say anything remotely like that....

LOL

On a serious note, I've noticed that the VIC-MIDI cart has well over 32K of RAM (1MB, IIRC) that would be banked switched in. The only software I'm familiar with that needs more than 32K is Doom and it "only" needs 35K.

So, is there really a demand for more than 32-35K of RAM in a VIC-20? I get the idea that it's cool. But who/what uses it?

I'm not talking about what *COULD* be done...I'm curious on what is actually being done to use it.

Thanks!

I think pixel is writing some kind of unix-like OS and a graphics interface (along with his other 254 projects)...

I'm also developing a game making use of the Ultimem .

LOL! I also made a video converter that would, probably ten years from now, show off a minute of video played from ROM on it. So you can make it 255. ;)

As soon as I want to go on with something just the right thing goes wrong. German parcel service destroys the VIC, suddenly can't make tapes, SD2IEC kicks it, Ultimem fails, money runs out, fiscal authorities give me the last push over the edge because of their f-ed up IT and ruining my day jobs/exciting workouts, German authorities in general, brexit, brain-damaged friends & family who won't let one work because they don't understand what one's doing at all and what it takes, stoned idiots I shouldn't have trusted in the first place, need to care full-time about people I love and almost die, fat bride who parks her voluminous ass on my saxophone and me partying too much for many more reasons... and when there's finally time there's barely energy nor brains left and instead I get scared, furious and frustrated like a sparrow under a dropped pizza which in turn makes me a funny guy. So picking a quick hack is often the last straw – and the great reviews of my works of course. ;)

But, yes, never lose hope. As far as I noticed huge applications for memory expansions seem to be rolling in from all sides. :)

Nothing. It's around 5pm. Just having fun after a long day of paper work. :)

Have you made any post on this yet? I would like to see what your up to.

I have a game that i am working on that started out to be for ultimem/midI cart. I have decided to design it instead with the intent of having it printed on an altered Behr-Bonz, for various reasons.

I would like to see what could be done using both the ultimem and the full potential capabilities of an sdiec. The possibilities would be madening. :D

The Behr-Bonz multicart has an EPROM chip of 16 Mbit or 2MBytes.

Not yet. I prefer not to reveal details before it is complete :)
But I mainly use the Ultimem to store the big amount of software sprites (200 large sprites).

I must have overlooked this one.

Let me know all the technical details!

I will once I have worked them out or when I have more questions concerning the Behr-Bonz. I will probably work it up to a simple demo operating at normal 32k befor I start proper formating for the Behr-Bonz. First I am working on laying out the story characters and basic game design befor I start working on programming.

Here is a post I started to hash out ideas. I'm looking for as much input as possible from the community. I want to make this game for the vic fans and not just a game for the vic.
I figure if i'd like to attempt to print it to cart it would be best to make it a game that people want to play and not just the game I want to make as I have done with my previous projects.

brainstorming

Your input here would be appreciated considering you know more about the capabilities of the hard ware i'm writing this for than anyone else.

Ooh exciting...!

Any clues as to an expected completion timescale?
