I finally took some time and rebuilt my old springless vic20 keyboard
wow that thing was in bad need of a full tear down and cleaning
now it looks almost new and all the keys work
keeping track of them suction cup type plungers sure is interesting

A keyboard without springs. lol

Seriously, many keyboards (especially cheaper keyboards from the 80's) didn't use springs to push the key back up when you pressed it and let go. Instead, they would use rubber domes. Which was much cheaper than all of those metal springs.

I see, and there's a version of the VIC that doesn't have springs?

Not sure on that one. I assume so. I only have three VIC-20's and out of the three, I've only taken the keyboard apart in two of them. They both had springs.

Perhaps he does.

I know this is taboo on this forum...but today I just received an Apple IIc that is more dirt than computer. I can't wait to restore it. Especially since I've cleaned up two VIC-20's lately to near mint condition. :-D
