From comp.sys.cbm. Of interest to this group is that there are
four VIC-1001s in the collection. Jeff, here's your chance!

I am selling my complete collection of computers (over 570 different ones).

In max. 2 weeks time I will start a mailing list and everyone will be able
to bid on SEPARATE computers.The exact procedure of the sale will then also
be explained
So...please don't mail me saying : I am interested in X and I want to know
how much you want for it as I don't have prices set.
As you can see from my 100% positive feedback on Ebay (member ChaosDM)
this is not a scam, but a serious sale. I don't want to go through Ebay
directly, because listing 570 different items
separately would take AGES!

Dimitri also is posting on the Vintage Computer Forum, and wrote that within 48 hours of posting this message on various places, he has received over 100 responses from interested parties. Of course it doesn't say how many of those are interested in a VIC-1001.

it seems like the one item I want is the most popular! at nearly 300 euros, I think it is more than i wanted to spend.
no vic-1001 for me...

Is anyone following this auction? It is really turning into a scary con. Some of the items are simultaneously listed on eBay... lots of spam emails... etc.

I'm not following the auction, but a lot of junk email on the list was reported elsewhere, and Dimitri regrets that people chit-chat.
I haven't heard anything about parallel auctions. All the systems are supposed to be auctioned on this site:

However, there is only one VIC-1001 on that auction, compared to the four Leif mentioned.
Hrm.. an unboxed ComX 35, current highest bid 6 Euros..

I guess I shouldn't spread rumors, but several people reported seeing the serial numbers of exact items on ebay. The seller explained that he was only doing this to get attention (possible buyers) for his off-ebay auction.

If you aren't on Dmitri's mailing list, Bo Zimmerman (famous C= guy) has spoken up and vouched for Dmitri. Also, some of those eBay auctions got pulled.

IMHO this is correct. Some month ago I had to repair one (brooken 2114) and then he had two. In the mean time he sold one so after some arithmetics I found out there should be only one left.
For the rest, I vouch for Dimitri as well.

Dimitri is definitely only selling one of each item in the MO5 auctions. Any others after this, if I recall him saying, will either be kept or sold off on eBay on an individual basis.

On Vintage Computer Forum, he wrote that he's only planning to keep a few computers which reminds him of his childhood (namely ZX-80/81, Spectrum and Amiga, IIRC -- he must've had a terrible childhood ;-).
If you look closely at the auction site, you see that he has e.g. two Atari 65XE, two Amiga 500, three breadbox C64:s (of which two boxed) and so on. I'm even counting C64 and C64C as two separate systems.

Woo. The VIC-1001 was sold for .. deep breath .. 625 Euro! And the winner is someone we know very well - our dear Mayhem.
The other two VIC related items were a boxed VIC-20 for 46 Euro and a boxed German VC-20 for 75 Euro. I think both very a bit on the pricey side? I still own my VIC box and styro, and it is in VG condition or better.
I never bid on the Comx-35, which sold for 80 Euro, and I was much outbid on the boxed Oric Atmos which ended at 55. However I put in a bid, raised it twice and won the BBC Master Compact, which I understand comes with a 3.5" disk drive in an oversized desktop case big enough to have contained the whole motherboard if Acorn/Olivetti had wanted to.

I actually have no real idea if that was a decent price for the Vic-1001 now
After the Japanese C64 went up too high for me to continue, I figured I had more money to try and win this instead.
(indeed they were the only two items I was interested in)

In the end, it "only" differed 125 Euro between the Japanese VIC and the ditto 64. Bo Zimmermann gets the golden commemorative 64 for 3240 Euro.
If everyone stands for their bids (which they should), the auction in total seems to bring in more than 45,500 Euro not counting the duplicate computers which still are left to be sold at a later stage. Woosh.
