Re: UltiMem
I would prefer a normal cart to protect the UltiMem in a case.
Re: UltiMem
For the first batch, I am manufacturing them as full size carts, but folks can cut them down if they want.

@majikeyric
Please define "normal". A Commodore game cartridge uses a PCB of approx. 4.5 x 9 cm while the VIC-1110 and VIC-1111 use a PCB that's 7.5 cm deep. Both can fit in the same case.
As long as the screw hole is properly positioned, this shouldn't be a problem.
The position of the buttons, on the other hand is problematic. They should be much nearer the center so all someone has to do is vertically enlarge the venting hole to get them to pass through.

Re: UltiMem
I can move the switches, but moving them closer to the center won't make it easier to create holes for them. They sit too high to just enlarge the venting hole for protrusion. They'll need a drill hole no matter where they are located. I felt like the distance would help folks find the right button.

@Brain
The super expander PCB is about 9 x 7.5 cm if we are to omit the tabs on the sides.

This seems close to the size of the UltiMem's PCB.
The venting hole on Commodore VIC-20 carts is about 5.5 cm wide which seems wide enough to clearly distinguish 3 small buttons. If the buttons are aligned with the hole then only the top of the case needs to be drilled or grinded.
If the buttons are full width then both the top and bottom halves need to be modded.

Re: UltiMem
OK, I moved the buttons, and put the LED on the far right.
I remeasured and cleaned up a bit of spacing as well.

Re: UltiMem
Christmas always seems to sneak up on me, but I think I can make it in time this year.
Part of it will be making sure it has a proper menu and such. Marko is working on some code, but he admit it's not pretty, so it needs some "window dressing". Let folks know. VICE can emulate it now, so it should be easy to develop for.

Re: UltiMem
I am not sure the finished units will be at WoC, since it typically takes 30 business days to manufacture. I'll probably hand solder a few to show at the show, and I'll have pre-orders by then.

Re: UltiMem

Let everyone know.

Will this show up in the nightly build of Vice?brain wrote:Marko has been patching VICE to support the cart, so folks can be thinking about menu apps and such.

I haven't seen it yet.
