So I'm thinking about building a 3-5 slot port expander. After looking at some designs, some seem to have buffering or mapping logic and others, like the Cardboard 3 or 6, are passive backplanes. Is there a need for buffering the Data/Adr lines?
I plan to use point to point wiring for the card edge connectors and may include some control registers mapped to /IO addresses to control cart switching. Would this make more sense then the dip switching?
The Commodore 1020 has self powered connectors and passes thru power to the VIC, which I like, good way replace with a modern PSU. Likes/Dislike about this?
Any thoughts, advice, insight for a reliable interface?,
