What VIC 20 games should I obtain?

Post by Rob the rookie »

Hey everybody My name is Rob and I recently purchased a VIC 20.

I am looking for some suggestions about games that I should pick up

I currently own:

1. Omega race
2. Avenger
3. Gorf
4. And a few math games

Feel free to share your opinions on games that I should look for.

If you have ever had a memorable experience or achieved a high score on any of the 3 shooter games I have listed above please reply. I would love to share my experiences with you as well as hear about your own.

I look forward to learning about your different opinions of the games that I should own for my VIC 20 and sharing ideas about the VIC in general.

Thank you for your time.

The obvious first suggestion is the Mega-Cart. It contains all commercially released cartridge games, all available RAM configurations, an extensive list of utilities, some choice PRG files and a reset button. If you haven't already done so, put your name on the waiting list.

If the MC is out of reach, my second suggestion is a datasette and RAM expansions. They will increase the library of games available to you no end.

These are some of my favourite games:

Shark Attack (Tape)
Carling the Spider (Tape/Disk/Digital Download)
Keyquest (Cartridge)
Beast of Eden (Tape)
Arcadia (Tape)
Blitz/City Bomber (Tape)
Berzerk MMX (Digital Download/Mega Cart)
Quikman (Digital Download/Mega Cart)
Omega Fury (Digital Download)
Raid on Fort Knox (Cartridge)
VIC Rally X (Cartridge)
Traxx (Tape)
Frogger 07 (Digital Download/Mega Cart)
Tetris (Digital Download/Mega Cart)
Jetpac (Tape)
Jelly Monsters (Cartridge)

AFAIK, the VIC-20 Multicart/Development Cart is still available at

http://www.gamingenterprisesinc.com/vic20/

and it's only $28 US for a populated board (not including shipping).

With its set of 32 games,

Most of Jeff Minter's stuff (Abductor, Gridrunner) is pretty good.
I also like the newer games like Frogger'07 and Dragonwing.

hahaha! Thanks for the support, Ian, but I think new users should probably start with Minter and Griner and the like looong before basic games!
