Oh my! I ordered this nifty new HP LP2475w display as a second 24" monitor off my Radeon HD3870 X2 video card. It comes with many inputs, including Composite, S/Video, Component Video, DVI (2), DisplayPort, and HDMI.

Another cool feature is its ability to provide Picture-in-Picture (and out of picture, wtf), so here's a camera shot of my setup with a real VIC 20 connected composite video with an xvic emulator running off on the other monitor (with a Windows 7 KVM guest just for giggles):

Why not both of them on the same physical screen, would give a better idea how well the colors match.

Sure thing... keep in mind that the real VIC20 pot for its output has been tweaked to my preferences and the xvic emulator (latest SVN checkout) is setup to use hardware scaling (OpenGL) with true aspect and the NTSC palette with CRT filtering, so mileage will vary depending upon your preferences:

I think the real thing can look pretty special given the right cabling, monitor, and settings. That is not a slight against the terrific work provided by the VICE team (or MESS for that matter), because I spend 98% of my time using modern emulators over real hardware for the programming / debugging conveniences -- running it on real hardware is the pure enjoyment as the final payoff -- but then I usually go all out and have to see it on a phosphor screen, too, both a Commodore 1702 monitor and a big Zenith console TV.

The purple and green looked quite different.
