Forum User Ranking and Licence Plates
I just noticed that one of the Mod's change my user ranking of "Vic Newbie" or something of that nature to "Pinballer". AKA "Pinhead"
Got me thinking of a friends licence plate here in Ontario that reads "PINBALLR".
Was wondering if any other forum users had Vic-20 related licence plates and if so what are they and if not what would yours read?
Let's hear them!

That must be Jeff. I have not found anywhere that I can change the "ranking"...

That's commitment. Did our commodore company have anything to do with the auto industry? Or is it just a coincidence?Schema wrote:http://www.csixty4.com/car.php
Isn't Holden part of the GM family (i.e. Opel, Vauxhall etc in Europe) ? At least I know there used to be an Opel Commodore in the 1970'ties:

Don't forget the song group with Lionel Richie too!
As far as I know, fortunately "our" Commodore, both before and after Tramiel, kept themselves in the electronical industry; first typewriters, calculators and watches, then computers for all the money.

Apparently, Jack Tramiel got the idea for the company name when he was stopped at a traffic light behind an Opal Commodore car.Jeff-20 wrote:That's commitment. Did our commodore company have anything to do with the auto industry? Or is it just a coincidence?

Let's see.. Jack Tramiel moved from Germany in 1947 to the US, and founded Commodore in 1955. According to Answers.com, the first Opel Commodore model was built in 1967. I don't know how common - or at all - the Opel brand is in the US, but maybe Tramiel was extremely far-sighted to spot a car ten years in advance and on a different continent.
Possibly there was some other US car called Commodore that was not an Opel, and later Tramiel thought it was an Opel Commodore he had seen in 1955?

According to an interview I read, he came up with the name in a taxi in Berlin, where Opel is a domestic brand. The reasoning behind the "Commodore" brand name is that military grades were commonly used for typewriter company names.carlsson wrote:Let's see.. Yes, Berlin fits but not the year, if I have understood the Opel history correctly. Around 1954, Opel sold Kapitän, Olympia and Rekord. Maybe there was a pre-war Opel Admiral or Kadett that had survived in Berlin.

I wonder if it was not something like this Jack Tramiel once saw, but later misplaced in his mind as an Opel:
