OK, I got the VIC I took from the closet, finally found the PSU. It buzzes like a mad swarm of bumblebees, but I turn on the power, ge the power LED and then no video. I'm using the composite video port to the same monitor my C128 uses.
I don't have a way to test the RF video yet - but I did hook up my 1541, waited a minute, and typed blind LOAD"$",8,1, and there was no drive activity at all.
So, I think I have a dead VIC. Anything I can try? I also have a partially functioning C64 that I think had a bad video chip, it boots but display is corrupted...each square that is supposed to be blue is some weird pixel pattern, the cursor flashes another pattern and the words on screen are a variation of the other pixel pattern. Didn't try running anything yet.
