I'm ready for some people to try Planet-X1
Okay, I'm about 90% done with this game.. All that is really left is to create the enemy AI and a few bug fixes, and add the title screen.. but it has come far enough that I'm ready for some people to try it. I'd especially love to hear if it runs on a real VIC-20 or not. Here are the two main download links you'll need:
http://galaxy22.dyndns.org/vic20/planetx1
http://galaxy22.dyndns.org/vic20/MAP.P00
You really only need the first file, but if you want to have a more interesting world to explore, get the second one too and after the game starts press the "L" key to load in the custom map.
Here's some other key information you might find useful:
F1 - Select Tank1
F2 - Select Tank2
Cursor keys - move tanks.
Space - Fire blaster
G - Toggle GPS on and off
(the following are here mainly for debug purposes and will be changed or removed in the final version)
L- Load Map
S- Save Map
1 - Plot character to map
2 - change character to be plotted
3 - toggle allow tanks to walk through anything
THINGS LEFT TO DO:
1) Add joystick support
2) Add enemy AI units
3) Add ability to construct new walls & bridges
4) Add various guages to show remaining energy levels, etc..

Well, it isn't an issue with the random map generator because even the brick wall around the base is missing. So I tend to think the problem is that the memory area the map is stored in is not available. IE: VIC-20 memory configuration was not set correctly. That is my best guess at the moment.TBCVIC wrote:That was VICE. It happend twice for me.
EDIT - Actually, I tried putting the VIC-20 into 16K mode and the bottom half of the map looks exactly like yours. So my guess is that you are not running in 24K mode and since the program puts your base in a random position each time the game is started, those two times you saw that were probably when it stuck you in the bottom half of the map.
