[eBay] VIC-1001 in Italy

Post by orion70 »

FYI:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0331314157

€799,00 are too much for me , although one can make an offer.
Also, no original box.

Very good question! I really want to know! Those who own one (Schema, Mayhem, ...), could you tell us your serial numbers?

I'm almost certain they began at 100000. Then again, about 150,000 units made isn't impossible considering Japan had at least 115 million people back in 1980. That would be one VIC-1001 per 1000 people.

I think Commodore started at 100,000 also; my PAL Vic20 is very early and has the serial number 14xxxx on it.

Well, for that matter my two-prong PAL VIC-20 is S/N 006xxx if I recall correctly. On the other hand I am a strong believer of the theory that each factory had their own set of serial numbers, as well as PAL and NTSC are individually numbered. It is possible that everytime they changed the board layout, the serial numbering was reset.

Indeed! That's way too many for a single body. :)
