Omega Fury

Post by rhurst »

I wrote this as its opening sequence:
In the year 2010, the Omegan System expanded its star colonies too far.
They have encroached upon the borders of the Thargoid Territories, a
civilization with advanced defensive prowess and relentless fire power.
And the Thargoids have expansion plans of their own, which do not
include Omegans.

That conclusion was confirmed by the latest scouting reports. The
tactical data collected has revealed that the Thargoid threat against
the Omegan outreach is not going to end there, as they have been
massing what can only be construed as an invasion force -- to strike
as deep as their hull plating and might can endure.

Fortunately, the twin city Ramok has developed a new star fighter for
the Omegan Warriors to combat this alien threat. The first order of
business was to keep the fighter more agile than the enemy, banking
on pilot training and survival instinct over technology. That agility
comes at the expense of lighter armor and a smaller weapon energizer --
energy bolts dispensed before fully charged will have lesser effect
against thick Thargoid hulls -- placing a premium on accurate, first shots.

Seven years of command and respect from all throughout the galaxies
is challenged again. Prepare for war!
I get chills from reading it -- onward to the coding! 8)

The new star fighter, dubbed Omega Fury, can be taken for a "spin" with this cartridge or program. 8)

Thrusters will be installed on Tuesday. :P

Just thought I'd let you know that the PRG version of the ship looks awfully like Pacman to me. :P

Nice looking ship though. :)

I like your talent and the use of it for arcade games that are my favourite games

Oooh! I felt just like Starbuck in that episode of Battlestar Galactica when she first took the stealth ship for a test filght!

Judging from your previous arcade endeavour and the solidity of this 'sprite' I really cannot wait! :)

Glad you like ... your comment about BSG inspired me to make a viper fly-by in its new intro screen. New binaries created for your viewing pleasure.

Another 4k of source (+400-bytes to the PRG) ... this time, just a sample of its fire power along with some code cleanups.

FYI, this game is also already configured to use a real working example of having multiple sprite banks (>8 active sprites on any given frame update).

Very, very nice! I see you've sharpened up the handling of the ship as well. The colour coded bolts are a great idea and should add a nice twist to the Omega Race formula too. The intro is looking pretty groovy as well; "...Honor their new Star Fighter called...Omega Fury!" - Cool! :)

Really nice, smooth graphics there. If things don't slow down too much with more objects, the game should be great.

Have you seen the Asteroids port thread? This game engine could be used to make a great Asteroids 2009 for the VIC.

Hah! I just suggested that very thing in the Asteroids thread! Great minds think alike and all that, eh? :)

I am having too much fun with the uIEC/SD on a real VIC:
Image
But I am working on the four Thargoid ships: scout, cruiser, destroyer, carrier.

I updated the PRG to drop the four Thargoid mines on the screen -- these will be used to defeat you: grenade, hull blaster, sonic boomer, and heart stopper.

Scouts and cruisers are armed with the first two mines; destroyers and carriers can have all four.

And if that wasn't enough to worry about, the sprite images (not shown yet) for the moving smart bomb and neutron bomb are prepared and waiting to be deployed by destroyers and carriers. Their aim is not only at the player defender, but also at the center object you will also need to protect from annihilation, if you care about moving up the ranks: Trainee, Scout, Defender, Warrior, Centurion, before reaching the ultimate honor of Protector.

Now that IS smooth and looks to be coming along well :)

One thing I noticed, though I don't know if it's the program, Vice or my keyboard; I could slow and down and stop while also turning, but I could not speed up. Pressing up while turning still kept me at the same speed.
