Question about GEOWrite

Post by rwv01 »

To anyone who knows GEOWrite for the C64:
Is there a way to get other text formats such as .RTF or .TXT into GEOWrite?

My tools (relevant to the task) are a C64 with a 1541 and MMC64,
and a pc with an SD card reader and Internet connection.

Thanks for any help.

I don't know anything about GeoWrite, but I would have liked to have spent more time with GEOS. I think if I had been older and known more about how the C64 could be expanded, I might have stuck with it a little longer (in reality, the Amiga 500 proved too tempting - and maybe that wasn't a bad choice).

Moderator: can someone move this to the "Other Systems" section? :D

I'd never heard of GEOS until recently.
It's really neat. Gonna have to get me "B" disk drive now :)
You can use it with one but means frequently changing disks.

Yes, I did use it in the late 80s, I just never took full advantage of it (I did write some high-school papers with it, though). On expanded systems with a REU and SuperCPU it really becomes a useable OS.

There was definitely a tool to convert from other Word Processors to geoWrite, though I don't remember what it was.

Geowrite was awesome. A true WYSIWYG word processor for an 8 bit Commodore 64 when 16 bit PC's were still stuck with WordPerfect. It made me proud to own a Commodore 64.

Have a look here, perhaps there's something that might work for you:

The two applications, Text Grabber and WrongIsWrite.

Isn't there a forum for the 64 somewhere?
High Scores, Links, and Jeff's Basic Games page.

Yes, but true C64 users tend to be snobbish and unfriendly to eachother unlike us VIC users who have spent a couple of years with the 64 as well.

Hopefully, we can be a positive influence on them and change that behaviour. :D

Seriously speaking, it is like peeing in the ocean. I am rarely on the Lemon64 forums and gave up Usenet (although not necessarily a C64 only place) some year ago. But go ahead; while we've had some rough times lately on Denial too, I think most like to answer actual questions with good manner.

Thanks for your replies!
I have tried the Text Grabber app and apparently had some success
converting a file. I just have to remember which .d64 it's on so I can check the result ! I've been going back and forth between several apps, folders, and files on my pc while I experiment. As I figure things out I try them on the real hardware.

As for the drama or elitist stuff that may exist on other sites...
I posted here because I knew you guys are very knowledgeable about Commodores and their software. And I appreciate your willingness to help me. I try to avoid online drama and be as diplomatic as possible.
There's something about the written word that can make an author's passing thought seem to the reader as though it's written in stone. "This is what they mean. This is what they're all about". They take it all to heart.

Anyway as part of my project I would like to get my 1525 printer ribbon
re-inked. Can any one direct me?

There are some computer clubs that offer this service, but if you cannot find one, buy a bottle of "stamp pad ink" from your local office supply store and experiment with that.

I may try that.
I might try to get a new one from these guys too.

Mean time I've been milking the one I have testing things out.
