ARMA's TAP site content back online

Post by 6502dude »

I am pleased to announce that Arma's TAP site is back online once again.

Tim gave me permission to host this site in June 2007.

It only took me a year to get around to revising pages and correcting links.

It is complete with exception of the Thanks page (which I have not been able to locate yet) and page for Type in Games.
This I may also have somewhere. I have several of the type in games that were on the site as I did a bunch of typing a few years ago.

Please advise of any broken links.

Also, in the interest of keeping a complete collection, I will update site with any TAP files, screen shots, or cover scans that folks are willing to e-mail to me.

The site may be accessed at:

http://www.6502dude.com/cbm/vic20/arma/index.html

In order to keep my bandwidth usage down, please do not leech from the site. If you are interested in multiple files, send me a PM.

I have been through the archive of TAP files years ago. The last time I checked, I have fixed 100 of the TAP images about.
I was wondering if anybody is going to re-dump those tapes or is interested in fixing Arma's ones.
Thank you.

Cheers,

Luigi

What was wrong with them that required fixing or re-dump?

I'll answer with an example here.

Load 3dmaze.tap (NOT 3dmazegalactic.tap) from Arma's archive, which is the first game I fixed.

Then get my version from http://www.luigidifraia.com/vic20/3DMAZE_fixed.zip and load it.

Think of this happening with at least 100 other games...

Btw, the file from Arma's archive was surgically reconstructed pulse by pulse where damaged: I did not just copy the spare CBM block over the one that was broken. My approach preserves the original samples as much as possible while editing the damaged data only.

Cheers,

Luigi.

Your link appears to be broken.

Can you provide quick summary to save me time from downloading, loading to vice, comparing, etc?

OK, this is a very tricky example, so that I will provide you with some additional information. If you load the two tapes in VICE (disable any memory expansion first), you will not notice any difference.
Both of them will load without errors and apparently execute properly.
Yet one of the CBM data blocks of the original file is corrupted. It's just because of redundancy of the data that it is still usable.

Now, this is a (un)fortunate circumstance, and things seem to be going smoothly. Have a go with one of the following when you get some time:

Abductor
Acountrygarden
Alphablaster
Alphoids
Asterods
Astrocommand
Astrofighters
Astropatrol
AttheCircus
BRIDGEMAN
Blitzkreieg
Blockade
Blockbuster
Bongo
Bullet
Castlemath
Chariotrace
Chess

Sometime things will not go smoothly as before...

That story is not too different from what happened with Basic V4.

Originally it was unusable then I realized the original file contained the same data twice. I effectively used the second copy to fix the first.
Be normal.
