Vic 20 bits discovered

Post by fgasking »

Whilst porting some unknown tapes to check what was on them, I encountered some tapes which brought up two Vic 20 titles i've not seen before:

Star Treck

and

Tiny Tutor - Computer Software Associates (Distributed exclusively in the United States by Micro Software International inc."

Please find the tape files here... http://gtw64.retro-net.de/Vic20bits.rar
The second 2 labeled files were from the Tiny Tutor tape, which I think has several versions. The C64 version is in Gamebase 64 Currently.

I dumped Tiny Tutor to TAP file and sent it to Arma back in March 2006, but it did not get added to site as an update.

I have an orginal cassette of this, but no inlay cover to scan.

I will add it sometime this week.

Awesome! ... hopefully your copy is a lot better than mine too. Shame the inlay is lost, but at least its preserved :)

Tiny Tutor is now posted on Arma restoration site -

http://www.6502dude.com/cbm/vic20/arma/ttaps.html

While not a cassette insert, I scanned a copy of the box.
This potentially could be used to make an insert.

Screen shot and TAP file are posted.

Hey 6502dude,

Long shot, but I don't suppose you have an original of Star Frog by Mikrogen?

Sorry, I do not have that one.

However I do have HES Software's Raid On Isram

This was a donation from Centallica, who (back in Feb 2007  ) asked that I dump it to a TAP file.

I have finally gotten around to this. It can be downloaded from here:

http://www.6502dude.com/cbm/vic20/arma/rtaps.html

Now I need to get back to MegaCart project.

It's actually just a graphics changed version of Rabbit's Skramble. The company did license a few of its titles to the US (another being Myriad which was turned into Robot Panic on cartridge by HES) and bought a few titles from the US to release in the UK (such as games by Nufekop).

And Reg Stevens, the author of Skramble mentioned that he had no input or knowledge of this "hacked" version (as he called it).

On the subject of Terminal's Skramble... bloody loved it! ... better version compared to Rabbit's cosmetically. His Meteor Blaster is a classy game too! :)

Given you've brought that up, I can perhaps ask... how did he get away with selling the same game essentially (different graphics) to both Rabbit and Terminal?

(and yes I had linked all three together in GB20 already)

There was no such thing as WWW in 1983, so the companies could not look up eachother's releases until it was too late? :-)

He didn't say why, but he said the following:

"The Rabbit version you mentioned was really the Mark 1 Skramble!, the Terminal version had some improvements. It was also sold in the US by a company called MicroDigital- they licensed a lot of my stuff from Terminal. Skramble was also pirated, with thinly veiled changed graphics, by another UK company and markets as "Flight from Isram" or something like that- I've forgotten exactly; probably a good thing."

Just to confirm, he mentions that he did the following games:

"For the VIC20 I remember writing; Skramble!, Maze Muncher (an awful Pacman clone), Get Lost! (a quite good 3D Maze), Meteor Blaster, Gridder, and Reversi (terrible)."

I've got a Reversi listed but no details on year or publisher... I hope it's the same one though. Don't suppose you know them? Likewise Maze Muncher, not got that listed at all.

It's a great game if you can get far into it (I use to be very good at it in the day but older now I can't get as far)

There was a thread discussion of Raid on Isram that I was discussing this game, so I wanted to share with everyone and thanks Brian :D
