Well, it wasn't cheap (EMS-shipping etc...)... But there were a big hole in my collection that's filled now.
Now all I need is a boxed japanese C64 and a boxed SX-64 to complete my collection.

Goodness! It's so pretty. Will I ever get my hands on one?! What do you think the production run was on this model? Three? Would the serial numbers give any indication of how many were made?
I may have to fly to Australia...
I love the Yen key, but the keyboard brings up another interesting issue. There's a shift lock key but there is no CMD lock key. How would one type naturally in katakana without constantly depressing the CMD key?

I never fully explored my Vic-1001 but you change into katakana mode by holding shift and C= down on boot. I'm not sure if you can change between romanji and katakana on the fly with the power on though.Jeff-20 wrote:I love the Yen key, but the keyboard brings up another interesting issue. The two prong PSU here is much smaller than the c64 type PSU.

We never had the beige "Cheese wedge" power supply in North America. I think that was only a UK thing.Mayhem wrote:Not that much so over the cheese wedge version, it's the same one I have for my normal Vic-20. The two prong flat model, not the round end. I guess Commodore "standardised" things later on to use the round design on the C64.

Really? I didn't realise that...
Just measuring it, it's 12cm x 10cm x 7cm. Seems the same size as the supply I've got for my Vic-1001...
Having got my Vic20 supply out here, you might be about correct. Well the biege supply I have for my C64 (replacing the cheese wedge I had that only died last year, how's that for longevity!) is a little longer but a little flatter. I think.Boray wrote:The two prong PSU here is much smaller than the c64 type PSU.

There are two types of 2 prong PSUs.Boray wrote:The two prong PSU here is much smaller than the c64 type PSU.
The first one, which was provided mostly with PET style keyboard VICs and with the VIC-1001 is part no. 1001038. It is rather big and metallic and is somewhat bigger than the 64's PSU.
The other one is sealed plastic and it is smaller than the 64's PSU. I don't know its part number.
The power supply shown in the image above appears to be part no. 1001038 and it IS a 2 prong PSU.
That was the standard for the C64, Plus/4, and later model VIC-20 in all of Europe, not just the UK AFAIK. It was white for the VIC, brown/gray for the C64, charchoal for the Plus/4, and beige with a slightly less round shape for the C64C. We never had the infamous black brick supply for the C64. The cheese wedge was replaced with a beige rectangular supply for later models of the C64C.ral-clan wrote:We never had the beige "Cheese wedge" power supply in North America. I've seen both biege and black brick power supplies here in the UK. I've got the beige one myself.
As for my Vic-20 two prong supply, it's definitely metal not plastic... I don't know when my brother's gf got the machine originally (she gave it to me) but it was boxed and complete still.
