I also noticed this and this. Neat little plotter but there isn't much software and pens are a hit and miss business. It's an on-going battle not to buy one to extract whatever amusement is to be had.

Say, anyone got a copy of the manual?
In the end it will be as if nothing ever happened.

That's interesting. I didn't realise the VIC1520 came in an earlier style. Is it white to match the VIC or biege to match the C64 (anyone have better pics?).

It would be nice have one.

Does it have internal PSU? When its European model it would only need change power cable. 220v system at UK too.

yep, has internal power supply. Its very neat to watch them work. Amazing device really. Pens are impossible to find now. I just sold out of the 1000 tubes I had. I thought I had scanned the manual and had it here, but I cant seem to dig it up anywhere.

What was this thing used for and what programs did support it?

My childhood friend used to have one with C64.

He never had idea what it was used for, but his parents did buy full C64 setup.

Its too bad that you cant get pens anymore.. There is no possibility to fill pens again somehow or something.. :?

I guess it could have been useful as a 4 color till receipt printer. Alot of industries used these printers to plot continuous measurements or data to the paper for record keeping. Kinda like you see in the movies where a geologist plots the seismic information from earthquakes and stuff. That sort of thing.

There is a fair amount of test software and small programs on the net for plotting and printing neat designs and stuff. You really need to lift the cover while it works to watch it go. Its pretty fascinating.

Pens can be refilled but most people dont hang onto the old dried up ones. I kept a nice stockpile for myself for the future but who knows how long these will last before they dry up like others have. I would like to find someone who could manufacture more of these. I would be interested in buying a large quantity.

Can you take a pic of the pens and post it here? Maybe one of us will have a clever idea on how to jury rig new pens (or modify the old).

Oh, I see, they are very tiny.

Can they be opened at all to get at the ink reservoir?

I dont know if any specific print programs like print master or the like supported it. I dont believe so. There may have been a driver for it in geos masters but I cant remember off hand.

What to do with it ? hmmm... maybe customized toilet paper? :)

Yes, the pen tip can be pulled out and ink put into the metal cylinder. Its a messy operation but I have had success with it. Hang onto your old dried up pens people! :)

Was this only printer that used those pens or were those used at other devices also? Course if it wasnt only this device maybe it would be possible find new pens..
