The KIM-1/Micro-KIM thread

Post by Bacon »

If anyone wants to continue the KIM-1/Micro-KIM discussion started in the Multicart thread, let's continue it here where it belongs.

Thanks!
5K of memory in the MINI-KIM too....wonder if they'll do add-on boards and other neat stuff for this kit?
Vince says he's working on a 32K expansion.
Can we see the back of the board done?

Will try and get a picture up soon. I practically live at my girlfriend's place right now where I don't have my C= stuff, but I'll be at my place at least a couple of nights this week.
Do you have a original KIM-1 as well?
No. I've thought about getting one once or twice, but I've always figured they're not really worth the money they typically go for. As I've said before, I've never really cared for the "this is collectible, I'll pay whatever it takes to get it and put it on a shelf for display" mentality; I'm more of a "this piece of gear is fun, I'll pay a reasonable price for it so I can take it home and play with it" person

I posted in the multi-cart to bring discussion/interest/ideas for the multi-cart board production to the table but backfired turning it to a KIM-1 thread instead  MODS can feel free to move the threads here instead of using a link to the discussion please...

I'm glad it's not at your girlfriends place, as there's other buttons you should be pressing over there instead of a old KIM-1 man

What has/could be done on a KIM-1 that would require that amount of memory? I know with my PET 4032 the Chess program is the only one that I'm aware of that requires that type of memory...

I'm a collector first by nature but a Commodore user before becoming a collector  So we'll see which one wins out?

I love the history how these came to be in the early years of computers and cross-reference them frequently to Pinball machines of the era that were also starting out (comparing the different chips and the operations of the two with their similarities/differences):

Hope to soon play with all these toys though soon!

I felt somewhat guilty continuing to hijack the Multi-cart thread so I linked here so as not to bring the Wrath of the Mods upon us, what with the need to offer burnt sacrifices of Ataris, Apples, and Acorn Atoms to placate them. Can't stand the fumes to be honest...

I suppose if you're running BASIC and want to write large programs, or you're using a resident assembler you could need massive amounts of memory.

Nice stuff! Looks similar to C= PCBs from the early-mid 80s (VIC, breadbox C64). Never seen the inside of a pinball machine before.
