Post by Jeff-20 »

Can anyone provide two tested, working, aligned tape decks? I can pay via paypal. Name your price.

Recently I purchased a "datasette clone" made by some chinese company. When I received it, to my absolute surprise, it was still sealed, brand new.

I got it for only 10$ on eBay and I only used it once to test it. Watch out, as there may be more out there like that.

Please note that many high end audio shops (the kind of place whre you pay 10k$+ for a pair of speakers) have the special equipment to realign tape decks. I would assume that they can use the same kind of equipment to realign datasettes.

You can align your tape drives yourself with this.
In the end it will be as if nothing ever happened.

Not unless Jeff goes below his standards and buys himself a Commodore 64.

Do you think the program could be deconstructed and translated somehow to a VIC format? I don't even have access to a 64.

It's possible but it wouldn't be very easy. A tool like that for the VIC-20 would be handy though. Maybe I'll drop the author an email and see what their thoughts on the matter are. You never know.

Sorry, I didn't realize that. I could send you one or maybe I could see if TPUG has a couple of C2Ns and align them for you?

Hey Jeff-20,

I saw something a while ago in this ebay auction which appears to be some datasette alignment equipment. Perhaps that could be a solution for you?

I have a box full of boxed datasettes, but how do I tell if they are perfectly aligned?

I guess with the c64 program mentioned above. I think the word "perfect" seems too strong and may be preventing me from getting an aligned unit. :(

How about $10 plus shipping for two of them in their original boxes?

Are you going to align them? Do you have a 64 to do so?

I have plenty of systems to test them with using the program linked to. Several of these drives appear to be new or like new. I'm sure at least two of them will be fine. If I can't find two of them that are well aligned we just won't do the deal.
