PR Software / Moses Engineering Co. / Merlin Enterprises

Post by www.atarimania.com »

Hello folks,

I am one of the maintainers of the Atarimania website at http://www.atarimania.com which, among other things, aims to document and preserve all Atari 400/800/XL/XE games ever written.

Why am I here? Well, I'm actually looking for information on three software companies that released programs both for the VIC-20 and the Atari. Googling revealed nothing (note that I didn't download GB20 either) so I thought it was a good idea to drop by and, hopefully, create interest on the subject, something that would be a benefit to both parties...

The first publisher is PR Software, based in South San Francisco (unfortunately, the address is a PO box). The company ran ads in Compute! from July 1982 to July 1983 and had the following game line-up (all tape-based, non-arcade and not requiring joysticks):
At the Track
Boxer's Corner
Computer Baseball
Convoy Escort
Convoy Raider
Dungeons of Kal
(also available on the Atari)
Football Challenge (also available on the Atari)
Galactic Conquest (by Scott Jensen)
Sky Pilots
Sopwith Camel
(also available on the Atari)
Star Defender.
Note that Sopwith Camel is featured in their last ad, which also states to "write for information on Commodore 64 programs available" and gives Software House as the Canadian distributor.

Moses Engineering Company of Huntsville, Alabama had educational titles for a variety of computers, all on cassette: TRS-80 Color Computer, VIC-20, Atari and Timex. Ads can be found in Compute! (April, May and June 1983 issues). Partial list of programs:
Add
Algebra
Alphabet
Biology
Flash Cards
Physics
Planetary Positions
Weather Forecaster
.

Merlin Enterprises was from Torrance, California and ran ads from 1982 (November issue of Compute!) to April 1983. Here is one of them: http://www.atarimania.com/lst_pub.php?L ... ver=Search

Does anybody have more references? Catalogs? Names of the programmers?

Thanks in advance for any help!
