Strange Ebay Page!

Post by Jeff-20 »

Did anyone else get this...?

I go to "My Ebay" page and attempt to log in. I am shown a new page titled "Attention"... It now asks me for a bunch of personal information, everything from my ATM card number to my mother's maiden name! I'm not giving any of that out.

The page says it is a new ebay effort to avoid fraudulent use. Is this page real or do I have some sort of worm program on my computer redirecting me to a con artist?

Are you connecting directly to ebay, or using a link?

Definitely sounds like a phishing site to me.

I was using a bookmark. Anyway, I rolled back my computer to an earlier restore point. It stopped.

Wow, that's crazy. Are you saying the worm found your "My eBay" bookmark and rewrote it to point to the phishing site??

Even when I didn't use the bookmark! I think the worm detected the ebay sign in page and redirected me. The address bar didn't look suspicious, but I think there are ways to hide the real http address... Fortunately, a system roll back solved it.

Maybe it hacked your hosts/resolver settings so it overruns whatever your DNS points out?

That really is worrying! I've always told people not to use links to sensative sites.
