Spotted a VERY old VIC on Ebay!
Woah.
Get a look at this VIC-20 on Ebay:

It's really old . First production run metal power supply. PET style datasette.
Probably from the first North American production run. Never seen a box like that, without any pictures. Also get a load of the datasette box and manual - very plain. Probably has the flat keytops too with PET style keys.
And apparently it's NEVER been used. I hope some collector on DENIAL picks it up and takes some good photos for us!

Looks exactly like my PAL Vic20 actually, same keyboard and power supply. Pretty sure my unit must be an earlyish one too cos it's with the 2 prong entry.
As for the box, it's in the same style as the Vic-1001 box. Can't provide you a pic of that cos the one I got from Dimitri's auction is packed away at the moment.

Lie with passion and be forever damned...

Don't worry about me. I already have enough VICs (no more room) and one of them is a first production run VIC. I do think very early box is very cool. I hope it goes to a DENIAL collector and then that person posts hi-res pictures of the entire thing.Jeff-20 wrote:So, who's gonna get it?
En-garde!
EDIT: oh, I see netmetzpower (Jogi) has got the high bid right now. I hope nobody snipes him!

Yeah, personally, I think that's way too much for a VIC. Even though I love the VIC, the whole reason I enjoy the hobby is because it's fun and it's cheap. I can finally own all the dream gear from 1982 and play with it. If it cost me $150 for a VIC I would have too much buyer's remorse.
I don't think I've ever paid more than $10 CAD for a VIC-20 and some were even purchased for $2.99 CAD. This is of course excepting my original which was purchased in 1983 for several hundred CAD$.
I wonder how much of that bidding war was caused by this thread pointing out how early a machine it was.
Would be interested in knowing the serial number.
The seller probably has no idea what he/she had for sale. He/she probably now thinks ALL VIC-20s are worth their wieght in gold and will be in for a surprise when next that person tries to sell a much later cost reduced VIC and it only goes for $5.99 .

Look at some of the crazy (but great) stuff Jogi has bought:
This seems to be a really wierd early PET (or modified for Industrial applications):

and a cool 2031 drive:

Jogi seems to be cleaning up Ebay's Commodore section!
Deep pockets!!

What is that cool PET 2001 in a metal box with the little monitor that you bought? It is neat.
