New member saying hello

Post by PhotoJim »

Hi all,

I've been a member here for a few months but this is my first post. (I think. :) )

I've been a Commodore user for a very long time (since the early 1980s) and have had my interest in the equipment grow lately.

I primarily use a C128 with a few bells and whistles but about a year ago I acquired a pair of NTSC VIC-20s and later, got some cartridges and a cartridge expander, so at the moment I have a very nice, nearly-like-new VIC with 32K of RAM and the SuperExpander extensions. Not too bad!

I look forward to learning more about what this equipment can do.

Welcome!

So far I think we have BC, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec and perhaps Nova Scotia represented on this board!

I know for certain that Ontario is well-represented. I met Schema in the summer and will be seeing him again in a couple of weeks in Toronto.

I definitely need to get some good VIC software. I've been doing a C64 disk cleaning project and since it's just involving copying files from one disk to another, I thought I'd do some of it upstairs with the VIC and a tiny TV instead of in the basement with the C128 and a large monitor. Unfortunately, I don't seem to have any file copy utilities that will run on a VIC. Maybe an old version of copy/all from the 1541 test/demo disk might work, but COPY ALL 3.0 certainly doesn't, and neither does UNI-COPY.

I have an FSD-1 1541 clone... it looks better with the VIC than a beige 1541 does. Drive 9 does not match though. :)

The only disk-to-disk file copier for the VIC I can think of is the one built into JiffyDOS.

Maybe you've given us an idea for the next Denial project

I think that a disk-to-disk file copier would be an easy project - it wouldn't be very hard to adapt something existing. I suppose the tough part of it would be making it run on VICs of different configurations. A lot of us have very well-expanded VICs but it might even be possible to have this program run on an unexpanded VIC since we'd be copying from one drive to another and would only need to buffer a block or two at a time.
