Music Project

Post by Jeff-20 »

I've been kicking around the idea of making a music cd for fun. I was thinking of something experimental (I've een listening to Kraftwerk's first CD). There are so many musicians here. I thought I would ask if anyone is interested.

It could either be a one time compilation of a collaoration under a group name. If you think it would be fun, give me your ideas...

What would be fun is if someone could create a nicer piece of software to compose on the VIC. Not that VICTracker's not great, (which it is!) but it's not easy to work with. I find I construct music, rather than compose with it. Ideally, I'd like something akin to the Prophet64 sequencer, but realistically that's not happening.
I'm interested in contributing anyway, is it just VIC music or ChipTunes in general?

No VIC necessary. I was just thinking of music in general. You can use whatever means you have.

I'd be interested - I dabble in music quite a bit on the PC, and have even released a few albums. I tend to use FruityLoops for sequencing.

I don't know if I will have the time, but basically I'm interested.

I'm more into classical scoring (or tracking on the lower end machines). Not sure what I can contribute, but I'll think about it.

You mean a "Music by VIC-20 users" CD? ;) Maybe...

Could you explain your thoughts on this a litte?

I can't really see the point in doing a VIC commuity CD if the music is not at all related to be honest. Perhaps if it was covers of theme tunes it would be acceptable, but i'd rather see old commodore hardware being used.
I'll contribute something i'm sure, probably a mix of VIC and C64 sounds.

I'd be interested. Hopefully if I can find the time! I haven't used VIC tracker yet, but I've used Octamed (do most of my composing on Amiga Bars & Pipes though).

I was just taking advantage of all the musicians. This wouldn't be a VIC project; it's just convenient that we meet here. ;)

I would love to do themed based experimental CDs. (examples might be a series of electronic songs all under the duration of one minute or maybe a 20 minute piece that drifts from composer to composer with each "movement", you get the idea. I'm just kicking around the idea). I use FL Studio 6 and some KORG equipment. I also have the means to commercially distribute it (although it would probably be not-for-profit).

Actually, i'm intrigued by the idea of some sort of neo-classical symphony, but how would it be done?! I like the idea of interconnected songs, it's something i'm working on myself. You can here it here: www.myspace.com/teammeatmusic
Listen to TrackDemon then Track2 demo for an idea of what I mean.
I suggest we include as many sub 2-minute tracks as possible to get the broadest range of participation.
Whatever you decide, i'm in!

Since we all seem to be linking to our music sites, here's mine:

Poppier stuff:

(in the above, the song "Going Outside" was done totally on 1980s CASIO toy keyboards and electronic games - a MERLIN, SPEAK-N-MUSIC, etc.). The song "I Blame You" is a 4-track Amiga Octamed song.

Celtic stuff (me on tin-whistle and Irish flute):

I've done that a lot too. Here is one example:

I'm a musician too-- a traditional rock and roll player/singer. Here's a page with a some pictures and a few mp3s of me singing and playing live:
