Hi there Marco and Rich,

Yeah this is my latest release and the idea is I want to make a second version of the game later on with many more game mechanics:
Suck tubes
Conveyor belts
Lasers
Teleporters
and anything else I can think of :D

Anyway greetings

Looks great! I really like the hypnotic effect of the changing background and the synthesized voices.

Looking forward to that second version!

Cheers

The game would likely benefit enormously from those great ideas. Especially if they involve the enemies as well as the player. Complex mechanics that lead to emergent gameplay is pretty rare in Vic action games. The Crossfire port is what comes to my mind right now, but obviously, there are more and it is a rather subjective definition.

Hi Lechuck and hasseapa,

Maybe I'll do a Beta and rope in some of the forum members to help out and give suggestions when the time comes.
Hasseapa, emergent gameplay/behavior would be an absolute magnificent result for any game I manage to make.
Here's hoping.

Greetings

Just wanted to say thanks, huffelduff, for such a great game.

I'm a sucker for a Berzerk-type game and I've thoroughly enjoyed playing this.

The docs in the dossier really made me laugh out loud and the animations for entering and exiting the arena are hilarious too. Great work. I look forward to a future version.

I'm glad you found the animations a hoot. I can just imagine unwillingly being shoved into some arena and my absolute protest all the way there. By the way, I think the pinnacle of an 'AI testing humans game' is the game Portal 2 (my favorite game of all time). I guess the dossier is my tribute to that game in a way.

Anyway I'll double my efforts to make the followup game.

Oh yes! There is a Portal vibe. Portal 1 is one of my favourites and the first game of its type that I played all the way through (there were some very late nights). I wasn't expecting Still Alive at the end and it made me cry it was so good. I didn't go on to play Portal 2, there were new mechanics and I felt that compromised the simplicity of the first (get from one end to the other using just the portal gun). Maybe I will one day and maybe I'll really enjoy it.

Having a puzzle to solve (the combination lock) adds something that's missing in Berzerk. Same with Shamus, the pickups give it a bit more of a goal.

I think you would enjoy it immensely. It has some good new mechanics, the foremost of those being the different 'gels' i.m.o. Then there's the facility one gets to explore when one gets in behind the game arenas. At one point you discover an entire ship ala 'Philadelphia experiment'. The old offices and computers systems gave me goosebumps. And its also very very funny, GLADOS is so good.

Anyway are you maybe going to do a Basic ten liner in 2024?
For myself the only idea I have is to do a conversion of a specific C64 ten liner.

The animations are really neat in this game :D At first, I wished for 8-way or 4-way shooting, like Berzerk or Amok. But soon I came to appreciate just having to focus on the left and right and adapting my movements to guard my head and feet. The beginning of Room 3 feels a little unfair though. I often lose all my lives as soon as I make a move up or down.

The ideas for a follow-up seem like they would make for a very fascinating game with room for a lot more variety, strategy, and even puzzles.

Oh, and by the way, the Lovebot was a great (and funny) enemy! Almost a boss and more interesting than Evil Otto. There was just enough time to escape his rays.
