Does anyone have experience purchasing from: https://www.c64psu.com/ ?

How was your experience? Is it a quality product?

Are there any better alternatives?

Considering they're in Poland I have a few concerns.

For a VIC-20CR, I suppose it is sufficient.

If you need to power a C64 with lots of power-hungry add-on's, like SuperCPU, Wico Trackball, 1700/1750/1764 RAM expanders, etc., then the Ray Carlsen power supplies provide even more amperage than the ones from Poland. Also Ray uses heavier gauge wire on the output side of his p.s.. Not only that but Ray also has a lifetime warranty on his p.s..

If all you are powering is a VIC-20CR, with no exciting things plugged into it, and no datasette, then you can make a cable from a USB-A cable by chopping off the other end and adding a 5-pin DIN (The Internet will show you where to put the (red) 5V wire and the (black) ground wire. Chop off the other two wires, don't connect those), and use a bog standard 2 Amp USB power blob (not a phone charger one, the size that would be used for an iPad). This works fine and has over-voltage, under-voltage, and current protection. If you get a good one (e.g. the charger from Ikea), it also has proper isolation between the mains and the 5V side [some of the cheap ones don't get this right]. I happily run my VIC plus a game cartridge or memory expansion without any voltage droop, so I have no hesitation recommending this. Of course, there'll be no 9V AC for a datasette or RS232 interface though.

Considering they're in Poland I have a few concerns.

The only concern I'd have with a Polish company is that the postage might be stiff if you're not in Europe. It's hard to imagine *anybody, anywhere* trying to set up a business racket based on VIC-20 power supplies, so I'd assume they're legit.

I purchased two of those Polish PSUs, and must say I'm quite happy with them. Not totally, because the rubber of the plug on the VIC tends to slip off when you plug it off, of course without any problem on the functionality.

I have one driving a C64C and a higher power one driving a C128, and I have no issues with either of them. Are there better ones? I guess there may be, but I'm perfectly happy with theirs and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to you, especially as it would only be driving a Vic 20, which draws a lot less power than a C64 does.

I can't recommend those PSUs based on cheap Meanwell switching chassis - they produce quite a bit of ripple and they are not suited for being used with a long cable between PSU and connected device. It will be no problem as long as you are using it with a basic non expanded system, but the more expansions you add - especially modern ones - random problems will occur. We can quite frequently track down customers problems with expanded Amigas to one of those PSUs for that matter (which disappear as soon as you use the original PSU instead).
