What's a VIC-20 worth these days?

Post by Gaia »

I am about to buy a(nother) VIC-20 but not sure what a reasonable price could be... I can buy a C16 for as little as 15 euros but is this also true for a VIC? It is an older model, but a lot more were produced so I'd guess the price could be around 15-20 euros at maximum or am I wrong?

The C16 was always tempting but a bit more expensive here (in the states). I've always been on the verge of getting one but decline when realizing it is not compatible with the VIC's accessories

How come not compatible? The most important peripherals can be (re)used for the C16: C1541, monitor, joystick (with a converter cable), datasette (again, with a converter cable).

Anyway I am getting the VIC for 20 euros... nomen ist omen ;-) If all goes well with a cartridge, too 8)

Adaptor cables are a little irritating. Once I found a C16 tape adaptor but no C16 in a thrift store. I sold it on ebay for $15-20. I would have given it away for free. Imagine some poor kid with a great machine and no access to data storage.

My favorite 8bit machines all use the DB9 jooystick layout. I can't imagine what a pain it is to look for joysticks or ruin an adaptor.

Is there anywhere I can see some good screenshots of C16 games?

http://plus4.emucamp.com/ Lots of game links here.

I also have a spare C16 tape deck hanging around if it is needed by someone. I'd swap for a serial cable as I have lost mine! :D

My VIC has arrived in the post today :) Just playing around with it now a little. There's a 3K RAM expansion and a Cosmic Cruncher game cartridge with it (plus 2 books).

The noise channel sounds really weird! :o
