How many versions of Blitz

Post by beamrider »

Doesn't seem to be any shortage of versions of this game for the Vic

Commodore Blitz
New York Blitz
BlitzKrieg
Ciy Bomber
Lunar Blitz

Have I missed any?

Gamebase has a "Rabbit Blitz" which I guess is by the Rabbit Software house.

Another similar game is City Crusher, my favorite for this genre.
Mega-Cart: the cartridge you plug in once and for all.

There is a Llamasoft one released around the Falkland's War, originally Bomb Benos Aires, also released as Blitzkrieg.

It's not surprising as it's a very easy game to write in BASIC.
The Spectrum has more than 50 versions

It’s a pretty horrific premise, though.

Indeed it is!
That's why when I wrote one I flipped the player role to the part of shooting down the plane. Not much better I suppose...

It is more so today I guess. Back then we were young, innocent and I dare to say for most people in the 80's the idea was not as sinister as we might see it today?

I did make my own version of Blitz for mobile devices a long time ago and one of the decisions I made was to ditch the plane and buildings and turned it upside down to be an Indiana Jones type of affair with a collapsing cave of stalactites and even a boulder racing down after you. :)

Some of those games listed above I've not played, intrigued to try them out. Not sure if they can beat Commodore's Blitz for me though, the nostalgia is high with it being one of the first games I played and who doesn't love the waving pilot when you land? This was one of the few games my Nan loved too - so simple and satisfying to play (despite the horrific premise).

Hah, I'm not sure that qualifies as a version of Blitz any more :)

Still has a waving man, and air transport. Was able to find a video of the first version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgJHRxY9NK4

Second version had a better difficulty, bonus balloons and bats :-p

Ah yeah, I see. That looks really nice! One could probably make a decent version of it for the VIC...

A friend of mine did it for the C64...it would be easy to do a Vic version too.
