[ebay][not mine]Strange looking cartridge package

Post by orion70 »

Just stumbled upon this:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/255189745064

It seems like some kind of standard metal labeled Omega Race cart, shipped with third-party box and manual. It's French stuff- anyone knows it? Did Commodore license the PROCEP company to distribute its cartridges in France? This is localized, with all-French box and manual.

Apparently, others are just half-way localized (manual only):

Is any Denialer collecting them? Googling around, I see that PROCEP also provided the modified SECAM VIC for that market.

I know German ones are localized too, with some funny name changing :), but still they are Commodore-branded nonetheless IIRC.

Appears to be the same sort of arrangement that CBM had with Handic in Sweden, but I've never heard of this company before.

I just finished re-reading Brian Bagnall's book, Commodore: A Company on the Edge where he says:
French laws at the time restricted American companies from opening divisions in France. It was up to Tramiel’s friend, Elie Kenan, to open the market for Commodore products. Kenan used his company Procep to market Commodore computers in France.

The first one is just the cartridge and the manual. From the look of the others you linked, I would guess they are all standard products, but with a simple French-language manual included in the box by the distributor.

I agree that it looks like the box at first glance, but it's actually just the front and back of the instructions, which appear to be printed on a single folded card. The text in the offer says "Cartouche vendu avec la notice sans boite" - Cartridge sold with instructions without box.
