Apparently it's unpunished material. May I ask the seller if he could dump it before selling?
Any available manual for it?

I will work on dumping the ROM. Also, I've made a PDF of the owners manual which is attached.

Surprising lack of interest in this rarity. The auction is three days old and there are currently no bids.

I guess collectors aren't quite so willing to break the bank for 40 year old database programs.

On the other hand, this post got me thinking that it would be fun to track inventory for my VIC-20 software "business" on a VIC-20. You know, how many tapes, cartridge cases, PCBs, labels, EEPROM chips, etc., I have on hand.

The (c)1983 here is really interesting, and it's probably why so few of these were produced. At this point, it's been over a year since the C64 was introduced. The advertised $89.95 price tag is around the price of VIC-20s, which hit $100 in 1983. Does any small business use a VIC-20 at this point in history? Maybe a few. But those folks are married to an existing process, and will be until they reluctantly accept a Compaq from their son-in-law in 1990. So there's no market for new database software for the VIC-20 in 1983.

Another factor might be that the people who adopted home computers in the early 80s bought them with the understanding and expectation that they would be programming their own software and by 1983 the people who intended to implement a database had already made their own and therefore had no need for a commercially produced one.

I'm not sure if I did it right, but I used a snippet of code that Mike gave in a different thread to dump a cartridge

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8962&p=100463#p100270

Here is what I got. If this doesn't work can someone let me know what to do differently?

Here I fixed it for you.

Load on VIC with RAM available at $A000, then soft reboot it.

Thank you for doing that. I think there may still be a problem with the image file. When loading it in VICE, I can't get much past the initial menu without encountering various undefined errors. When running the real cartridge in a real VIC, I am able to create a database and perform the other functions without any errors.

In looking closer at the image file, I see it is about 4K in size, but I would suspect the actual cartridge is 8K, so I think I may have captured about half of it. In looking at the code I used to pull the image, I see that Mike notes it pulls memory from $A000 to $AFFF (which was what we wanted for that other cartridge), but I suspect for this one we actually want $A000 to $BFFF. How do I modify the code below to pull the full 8K?

Code: Select all

1 SYS57809"MINI-JINI.PRG",8:POKE193,0:POKE194,160
2 POKE780,193:POKE781,0:POKE782,176:SYS65496

I am not postive, but try changing the POKE782,176 to POKE782,192

That seemed to work. It captured an 8K file this time. Can you fix it however you did last time so it loads at $A000?

[Removed attachment - good file is in the next post]
