I recently pulled out of the loft and old VIC20 unit ..which didn't power up on account the rocker switch was faulty ..
I found one on an old board and switched it out ..
The Vic20 now powers up to a cyan border with garbage on screen ..
multicoloured and flickering ..
From my previous repairs in the past this is usually a faulty VIC chip ..but it's been many years since I repaired one.
Does anyone still have working chips (PAL) 6561-101 to sell ?

Thanks for that ...
As I said ..
not opened a VIC for over 15 years so brain a little foggy ..
How much for a VIC anyway ..as I have 2 workers so it wouldn't hurt to have a spare chip..
..even if I pin down the faulty ram ..
I guess I'll have to fit a full set of bases and start swapping ..
most likely the screen memory area perhaps ?

I may just retrofit some IC bases in my oldest working VIC (made in Germany WGB SN 66319) 9Volt AC psu ...that way I can test some chips going forward ..
