Boing! Gideon Zweitgzer of 1541 Ultimate fame is now considering the Ultimate-64! A more radical redesign of the original C64 than the C64 Reloaded board, the Ultimate-64 is a FPGA implementation of the C64 and is still meant to fit within a C64 case. And it comes with the 1541 Ultimate built into it. See

Re: The Ultimate-64
Nice, would be great to see a vic 20 version too! Must be quite similar?
Re: The Ultimate-64
The C64Reloaded MK3 will also come soonish.... and we DO have a VIC20 core

Sounds great with a VIC20 core but the physical board would need to be different as well to fit in a VIC20 case with only one joystick port, different expansion port etc.groepaz wrote:The C64Reloaded MK3 will also come soonish.... and we DO have a VIC20 core

Re: The Ultimate-64
The VIC20 core on my MIST FPGA is really quite limited. There is no D64 access and can only expand by 8+3kb. I am fairly sure this is easy to fix (the 1541 access on the C64 can be reused).groepaz wrote:The C64Reloaded MK3 will also come soonish.... and we DO have a VIC20 core
Re: The Ultimate-64
the core on the mist is totally different - we have our own. it will then mostly likely get all the features that the chameleon core does have right now (turbo, 1541 emulation, cartridges etc)
that again wont happen i think - the vic20 market is just too small to justify making a specific board for that.Sounds great with a VIC20 core but the physical board would need to be different as well to fit in a VIC20 case with only one joystick port, different expansion port etc.

Very moot point!Commodorianen wrote:Sounds great with a VIC20 core but the physical board would need to be different as well to fit in a VIC20 case with only one joystick port, different expansion port etc.
Having both the VIC-20 and a few different versions of the C64, I can tell you the plate on the joystick port side is exactly the same size on the C64 and VIC-20. As for the cartridge port, it is indeed larger on the VIC-20 but both the C64 and VIC-20 have exactly 44 pins and making an adapter (assuming the FPGA assings the pin functions accordingly) is incredibly easy.
Both the VIC-20 and C64 boards can fit in the same case and use exactly the same keyboard.
Be normal.
Re: The Ultimate-64
Sounds promising even if it was left to the community to make the cartridge adaptors.
A built in megacart clone would be cool too.
