After 30 years I have rediscovered my VIC and some games I wrote and saved to cassette. I hoped to save them onto my SD2IEC after loading them from my old cassette, but it seems I was more clever than I realised as a teenage boy and most of my games are multipart loading of character sets and machine code and so are going to be difficult to save into a prg file.
So instead, I have bought a cheap usb cassette (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282277319073) and hope to save the cassette audio. I would like some quick FAQ guide on how to convert from USB -> WAV -> TAP so I can load into VICE and also share my games here!
I've looked but most things are C64 related not VIC20. Is there a quick start guide for VIC20 cassette archivists!?

Re: Convert Cassette to TAP file
Thanks!
If anyone else lands here looking for help, this:- http://wav-prg.sourceforge.net/audiotap.html looks like it will do the job of converting .wav to .tap.
In Audiotap, the "advanced" menu has a pulldown for Vic20. I have not yet tried it (my usb cassette deck is still on the slow boat from China) so I cannot vouch for it working yet.
My plan is to use the cheap USB cassette player to save my Vic20 tape as a .wav, then use audiotap to convert from .wav to .tap, and then load the .tap into Vice emulator.

Re: Convert Cassette to TAP file
Wav-prg and Audiotap work fine with a cheap USB cassette player. It might take some time to adjust the volume, though.
I have recently transferred my old VIC-20 tape collection from 1985 in this way.
