Cartridge PCB for 27x Eproms
Hi there!
Does anyone have a link to share to a site selling PCBs for DIY cartridges following the orignal size, fitting into orignal shells?
Or maybe an eagle layout file?
I'm trying to replace a dead Spectravideo PCB with 2x 2332 ICs on it by an alternative based upon programmable standard ICs.

k3ys sells prototyping boards that fit neatly into a Commodore made VIC-20 game cart.

THX.
I'll check his offer, but I can think of that a prototyping board is a bit over the edge for my demand...

Re: Cartridge PCB for 27x Eproms
I am still working on a vic20 cart board
it will hold a 2764 all the way up to a 27c801
and can also be used as a 3k to 35k reu
and can be used as a megabit board
I am just taking my lazy sweet time finishing it up
I was in need of about 60 cartridged for the test harnesses I build and could not find any
so I have drawn one up , that will do what I need and do more

That sounds really interesting! Parts of it seem to fit my demand...

well here is a very ruff prototype, or should I say a dew different ones in different stages of testing
I have the cad part about 98% done

Re: Cartridge PCB for 27x Eproms
Why not use a faulty actual VIC-20 games cart and just put an adapter for 2364/27XX ROMs ?
Jim Brain sells these at a very low price.

Re: Cartridge PCB for 27x Eproms
yes its a ruff looking thing but it works
what I have laid out in cad has the location for a 28 pin or 32 pin socket for use with 2764 27128 27256 27512 all the way to a 27801
and a few surface mount chips and location for a row of dip switches
and can be configured many different ways from striped down with a single 2764 for a program all the way up to many different uses
this board has come about from me needing a vic20 cart that has a eprom and 2k of memory
and I am still trying to add more to the design before I have the boards made

Good point, but 3 reasons against this way:
#1 I do not have an old-fashioned, dead cart PCB on hand. I only have 2 non-dead 'blob IC' Speed/Bingo Math PCB here available -> not what I need now.
#2 Jim's adapters are quite cheap indeed, but with sipping to old europe on top, it's not cheap enough any longer.
#3 I'm not sure if any old VIC20 cart PCB might fit into the Spectravideo housings!?
For now I count on ken and his project

@elwee
There are so many people with spare Commodore made VIC-20 game carts that what I suggested is usually an easy avenue of solution for both a board and a case.
Now, "usually" also implies "not all the time".
I have a few dead carts, I could ship you one for 7 Euros - the price for a light packet shipped to europe.
@Ken
All the Ultimate Expanders/32k expanders as well as all Behr-Bonz carts I have made for the VIC-20 have gold plated edge connectors. Non plated connectors can damage the cartridge port connector over time.
ADDED EDIT: (03-2016)
It has been a couple of times now this post has been taken out of context and people asked me for cartridge cases.
I was offering to elwee a VIC-20 cartridge circuit board from a defective unit here and that's what he seemed to be in need of. No, I do not give away cartridge cases, I have too few for myself.

@eslapion
I wont get into a argument over could or would or may or will , it is a mute point
I am going to make items for the c= and I will make them the way I want to
I even have 100% irrefutable proof that huge software manufactures used NON gold plated cartridges for the 64 and vic20
but I do thank you for your advice yet again , it has been noted yet again ......

The thing is, back then, most people expected the VIC-20 and Commodore 64 to be completely obsolete junk after about 2-3 years.
My main VIC-20 is 35 years old and my youngest C64 is 30 years old...

Re: Cartridge PCB for 27x Eproms
I honestly do not care if I finish it or not
every project I do gets nothing but negative replies telling me its already been done or its dumb or someone else is doing it
so no, no progress
the cad file is sitting on my pc along with my plus4 and 64 projects
