Even if ST was aimed mostly for serious use it was possible to achieve quite amazing stuff on Atari ST too using some clever programming tricks.

Photochrome for exemple could display 32768 on screen colours. That's many times the total palette of Atari ST.

Nvdi was a software accelerator that increased the speed of GEM (the gui) by around 1300% by replacing the C code within GEM with pure machine language. Steinberg created "MROS" then ST had multitasking. Some of the demos on ST is quite impressive too, created by real skilled coders. Some games as Vroom showed that it was possible to create stunning games on both ST and Amiga.

But that was the fun part about both the 16 bit computers, to breat limits.

I remember my dentist using an Atari ST in the end of the eighties.
The ST was in the treatment room and he checked it to see/enter patient data.

The first time I enterend the room and noticed his ST he was very enthousiastic!
When I told him I owned an Amiga he smiled and said:
"Now lets see if I can find a rotten molar so I can effort me a nice expansion" :D

From that moment every visit to the dentist started with a nice chat about our favorite computer.
He used the ST into the 90's and then switched to a Macintosh.
