Hi,
At Sinchai.de - FE3 assembly instructions page (http://www.sinchai.de/index.php?main_page=page&id=10)
there is something I don't understand.
Even after having it translated to English, it's not clear to me,
why is there a warning ? What must be done ?
Many thanks.
einzustellen.
ACHTUNG - erst die Chipbezeichnung beachten
English translation:
The jumper left danebem lying is no longer needed since the
board equal to 3.3V chips (which enclosed in the kit)
is adjusted by means of a conductor.
However, should a 5V chip used is the little
trace on the back to cut and 5V to
adjust. NOTE - only the chip name note
Grün Markierte Lötaugen sind auf der Rückseite verbunden = 3,3 V
ATF1504ASV = 3,3 V
ATF1504ASVL = 3,3 V
Wenn die beiden roten Lötaugen verbunden werden = 5 V
ATF1504AS = 5,0 V
ATF1504ASL = 5,0 V
English translation:
pads are connected Green Marked on the back = 3.3 V = 3.3 V ATF1504ASV ATF1504ASVL = 3.3 V when the two red pads are connected = 5 V ATF1504AS = 5.0 V = 5.0 V ATF1504ASL

Re: FE3 assembly instructions question
In plain English, the instructions tell, that this revised PCB layout defaults to 3.3 V Atmel controllers. Also, normally also a 3.3 V Atmel is delivered with the kit.
It is still possible though, to revert the PCB for the use with a 5 V Atmel. In that case, that trace doing the jumpering for 3.3 V must be broken (it is on the backside!), and then:
- either a jumper connector be soldered in, and the necessary jumper be set for 5 V,
- or a just small piece of wire be soldered in, which then acts like the jumper connection.

Thank you very much for your explanation Mike, it is clearer now
