Hmmm... So how do I use this on a Vic-20? In expanded and unexpanded mode? And where is SJLOAD put in the vic-20 memory map?

The file contains sjload and file browser for vic 20, c64 and c128, I didn't make this file. It's by an Italian as I can tell from the funny translation :-)
There should be a document explaining the contents of the archive.

I did read a text file, and then tried LOAD"!*FB",8,1 but that didn't work. I expect that is for a C64.

Some file names contain "20", some "64".
The quick load command works only if you have the files in the correct order in the directory.
Try loading "20.prg": the subsequent prg you'll load should be jiffydos ed.

I don't think so. I tried loading a game, which took 7 seconds. Then I tried to load the same game with my vic-menu, and that took less than 6 seconds. Besides that, 20.prg only works on an unexpanded vic-20 and I want to use it with expanded memory.

Here's SJLOAD-20 V7 (d/l at the end of first post).

It comes with 2 pre-assembled binaries which load to $0400 or $B000, and are started with SYS1024 and SYS45056, respectively. The $0400 version can effectively hide in the lower 3K area, when that one is blocked from BASIC use by a RAM expansion in BLK1. I presume because of the extra loading time and their size it's not of much use to provide versions for unexpanded VIC-20. ;) I found SJLOAD most useful, when it is used from within a program which does multiple loads (for example, VICtoria Gold Ed.).

Note: SJLOAD not only accelerates LOAD, but also SAVE and OPEN, PRINT#, INPUT#, GET#, CLOSE and their corresponding KERNAL entries.

Note 2: There's also a SJLOAD-20 V8, but that one only accelerates LOAD, and it is Mega-Cart specific because it installs into the NVRAM.

Edit: Seems the link is broken. I'll upload my copy on SkyDrive ...

Would this version also work with a "standard" RAM-expansion from $9800-$a000 or even from a ROM placed there? This area ($9800-$a000) seems the ideal hiding place for such a fastloader as nearly no other VIC-software uses it. Mega-Cart just gets so much better by it and the inclusion of the file browser.

Most probably, yes.

Boray, as an example of use I had SJLoad-20 V7 integrated into my panning VFLI viewer. Here the $B000 version (slightly renamed) is put on the *.d64, and viewer asks at the beginning whether to include it. The viewer requires RAM in BLK1..3 and BLK5.

As the slide show contains 15 images with ~10K each, you'll surely notice the speed difference on load.

Sorry Boray.
I just had that file and wanted to help.
