Denial may be offline for a while

Post by Jeff-20 »

Most of you know I've been asking for assistance with updating our forum.

I haven't found anyone to upgrade the VERY dated phpbb software. The forum is now so plagued with spam, faulty search results, and missing PMs. I finally feel pushed to making the effort myself (past efforts to upgrade were a bit problematic because i have no database experience.) Still open to any volunteers that feel more confident with these things!

I've been super busy, but things may calm down a bit by next week. I'm going to make the attempt sometime next weekend. During that time, don't be concerned if the forum is down for a day or two. Hopefully, all will go well and no data will be lost and we'll have a better community in place.

In a later event (post 7th of june, i got a huge assignment that takes every hour of my day) - I'd gladly assist. I know php and mysql as the back of my neck.. or whatever the right name for it is.

Remember to backup all before you start to upgrade.

The update is infact easy as you install a new forum that pull the sql from the current forum.

Once again backup, backup, backup
Kind regards, Peter.

I wish I could help. Good luck with the transition though. :)

Can I ask if there's going to be any added functionality to the site or is it just basically security plugs?

You mentioned lost PMs.

I have sent 2 very important PMs to member fsporche and they still show up as unread more than a week after having being sent.

Could that be related?

PMs stay in the outbox until the person you send them to reads them.

If you sent them on the 26th, it means he hasn't read them then.
