ZoomFloppy
The new ZoomFloppy is the successor of XUM-1541 and all X-cables (X-1541, XA-1541, XM-1541, XAP-1541, XU-1541, XS-1541). With ZoomFloppy you can connect all your Commodore drives to your PC using USB connection.
ZoomFloppy can be ordered from Jim Brain in his shop: klick
ZoomFloppy supports of course OpenCBM software. But new is, it also supports nibblecopy (MNIB) to create better disk images (exact images). For this a parallel cable (Speed-DOS) is nessecary, same type used by XAP-1541 cable.
It will also support old CBM drives with IEEE-488 bus in future.

Ordered one the other day... I'm curious about the direction OpenCBM is going with this interface and I'd like to make some progress using nibtools. Hopefully, Spiro will release new sources that install easier than what has been available and aging on the project web site.
Any technology distinguishable from magic is insufficiently advanced.

Spiro plans to do so, but an upcoming move and general lack of time has been a hindrance.rhurst wrote:Ordered one the other day... I think OpenCBM will continue to support the older parallel interfaces, but clearly, USB is taking over, and I'm not just saying that because I sell the USB interface.

Happy to report that my ZoomFloppy arrived the other week and I was able to "git" the latest Linux code:
... compiles and it works like a charm! And my XM1541 parallel adapter is still usable with this version, so all good news for now and into the future.
Code: Select all
git clone git://opencbm.git.sourceforge.net/gitroot/opencbm/opencbm

A test release of a patched OpenCBM is available for tester in my upload directory.
File: OpenCBM-IEEE-test_02.zip
It is working now:
- device detection for 4040, 8050, 8250, SFD-1001 (as 8250)
- CBMCTRL.EXE
- D64COPY.EXE for 4040 (thanks to TNT) and I think for 2031 also
- CBMCOPY.EXE
Thanks to all tester!

IEEE-488 now is officially part of OpenCBM distibution. You can find newest source code for ZoomFloppy in the Opencbm GIT repository.
As far as I know there is no binary package available currently.
So I offer a not officially binary package for Win32 at my homepage. It includes also firmware for all supported XUM devices (Zoomfloppy, Bumble, ...).
